I have just had the pleasure of my first online tutorial with a client using join.me, the new screen sharing service. It’s so easy to set up. Simply click on the link to join, and share the pin code with others. You can set up conference calls, and even give control of your pc to the user at the other end.

Not only did it let me do some tuition for my client on editing their website, but also allowed me to take control of their pc for a while to set up their email accounts for them.

There will be some concerns over security but so far this looks like the best tool for remote conferencing invented.

When Emma came to me when planning to set up her new music agency business, she had very clear ideas about what she wanted in terms of look. She needed a logo, and for that, I sent her to Julie Anson at www.art-24.co.uk. Julie gives clients about 20 ideas to start with, and then narrows it down to 2 or 3, before doing more detailed versions. She then gives the client several versions of the final logo, for me to use on the website, or for print. I tend to put these somewhere on the domain server for access by the owner, and printers.

Anyway, here’s the website. Just a couple of artists so far, but looking for more, and auditions booked for Feb 2012.

A lovely little website for Jean and the group who meet monthly in Banbury. People come from all over. Singles Sunday Lunches hosts dinners once a month or so in the Whateley Hall Hotel in Banbury.

With 10 days in Calpe, and excursions to Denia, Altea and Moraira, it’s become apparent that Spain is missing great, affordable web designers. So, I have set up calpweb.com to target the Spanish Costa Blanca, where there a few businesses with good, effective websites, but over 70% of the population online. Perhaps a few years behind the UK, but growing at a much faster rate. Have a look, Google+ the page, and add to facebook pls… x

I’ll be popping to Spain a couple of times a year to establish links, and grow the business out there.

Can I really have a free website?

“I can use a free website builder” he says. Or “I’ll do it myself on Publisher”. A website for free is what a lot of people expect, and it can be done, but just this week I have had 3 enquiries to fix websites made in this way.

The fact is that you can’t expect a website to perform if you don’t know what you’re doing. metatags, page titles, and descriptions as well as well written content, alt tags, avoiding google blacklisting through keyword stuffing. This is just the beginning. So, use a professional!

But the dilemma is that in the early days for any business, it just seems to involve money going out, whether its for stationery, accountants,courses, advertising….

So here’s what I can do. Rather than buy your website, why not rent it. This way, rather than paying the one off cost of web development, you spread the burden. You own the domain you choose, and the website is hosted in a VWD account. Typically, this mint then cost you as little as £15 a month for your site, as opposed to perhaps a one of charge of £600 or more.

So, if you fancy easing the burden, let me know, and we’ll come up with something that suits your pocket, and drives your business from the start!

Mailbox Quota – Mailbox is Full

Have you ever had this ping back at you? I wonder how much business is lost every day because of this phenomenon? Today I am trying to sort out some bike hire in Spain for our holiday in a few weeks. I find a great website, with prices matching my expectations. So, I send off an email with a couple of specific enquiries, like do they have tag along bikes for my daughter?
Then I get this response that the mailbox if full, and my e,ail hasn’t got through. I’m now faced with finding someone else, or ringing them in Spain at additional cost to me.
Sadly now I have looked through to see if I can find someone else, but no one competes.

The lesson here is; don’t skimp on your web and email hosting. Limits on email or web space will seriously limit your business.
